How I Lost 4 KGs and 3 Inches in Just 10 Days

Health is Wealth. We all have heard this many times but we don’t pay attention till we fall ill. This is an era of competition and everyone is running and working hard day and night to prove themselves. But most of us never realize the importance of paying attention to our bodies. We don’t realize that we can work properly and can compete only if we are both mentally and physically fit.

My schedule was also not different. My office was in Gurugram and my shift used to start at 2. It used to take 2 hours to travel from Noida to Gurugram on one side. I was following a very careless routine in which there was no place for any sort of physical activity. I used to wake up at 9:00 do some regular middle-class household chores like grocery, vegetables, etc., and then used to leave for office by 11:45. Shift used to end at 11 and I could reach home by 1:00 after which I used to have my dinner. In the office, junk food became a part of my daily diet. I followed this routine for about 10 years and in this time I suffered from severe back pain.

During lockdown as well there was no change in routine as office hours stretched due to working from home. Now instead of 9 hours, we all were working for at least 14-15 hours (my incompetent useless nonperforming manager sucks J).

One morning I found blood discharge in my urine and stool which made me worried. I ran to a hospital and consulted a well-known Physician. He suggested few tests and I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver Grade III. My heart sank and I felt my energy draining out from my body. I Googled and You Tubed, and found Cirrhosis to Liver Cancer which made my mind go nuts. But after consultation, I felt relaxed and knew what I had to do.

The two most important things that I needed apart from medication were – Change in schedule and a change in Diet. I decided to wake up early and so started sleeping by 11. When I started I was weighing 78 KGs at 5’10” which as per BMI is Normal weight but I could feel that I feel breathless even after a little physical activity. There was something wrong troubling me so I set a goal for myself to reduce at least 5 KGs.

I gave up my morning tea to control the sugar intake and started taking one lemon in lukewarm water. Now for those who don’t know lemon water is very helpful in reducing the acidity in your body, it helps improve digestion, boosts immunity, and helps in weight loss.

I also started a walk for 45-50 minutes at a medium pace. I used to cover a distance of 4.5 Kms in 45 minutes. After taking a breath started doing some basic exercises to stretch the muscles of all body parts for 15 minutes and then return home.

I am a big-time foodie so changing eating habits were going to be a challenge. I then shortlisted 5 items for my breakfast that can be eaten rotationally.

  • Moong Dal Daliya
  • Moong Dal Cheela
  • White Chole Chaat
  • Sambhar
  • Poha

Recipes for all the above items will be shared soon on this blog.

At lunch, I preferred to eat few portions of seasonal fruits or salad. Sometimes I also took buttermilk (Chaach). I also kept a water bottle handy with me with a homemade detox drink to quench my thirst and to feel full the entire day.

For dinner, I started taking only 1 chapati and increased my intake of pulses and vegetables. I also ensured to have my dinner by 8 or 8.30 so that I can again have time to take 30 minutes of a brisk walk after dinner.

Losing weight requires a lot of discipline and self-control. It is very essential to follow a healthy diet if you want to lose weight. Fasting is never a good option rather you should be focused on taking a healthy diet that provides all essential nutrients to your body. Remember you are trying to lose weight only and not trying to get weak or sick.

People with any kind of medical condition should always consult their doctors instead of blindly following tips from the internet. When I started I too watched a lot of videos and read many articles but in the end, I decided to make a schedule and diet as per my body and time availability which paid. While I will continue to take a daily walk I will keep switching my diet for 10 days every month to keep a check on myself.
